She did more than you think
Do you have the courage to stand up to a higher power? Do you have what it takes to say something not disrespectful, but bold to someone in authority? The Bible barely mentions the next person in our study, but she did more than you think.
Matthew 27:19 says, "While Pilate was sitting on the judge's seat, his wife sent him this message: "Don't have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him."
Our study today on The Easter 4 is Pilate's wife. Pilate is often mentioned when thinking about essential people in the Easter story because he gave the final command for Jesus to be crucified. Yet, Pilate's wife can easily be overlooked because she is only mentioned in one verse.
But that verse is powerful.
Pilate's wife had the courage to say something so radical. Matthew 27:20 says, "But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed." Nothing more is mentioned about Pilate's wife. It is almost like her plead not to crucify Jesus is overlooked.
The Bible briefly mentions Pilate’s, but we need not neglect her impact. She had the courage to stand with Jesus and for what is right. What courage do you need today?
When faced with the difficulty of standing up for Jesus and what is right, remember this courageous act by Pilate's wife. We do not know whether Pilate's wife believed in Jesus or not, but we do know that she showed courage to tell her husband that what he was doing was wrong. Today, stand for what is right because Jesus gives you the courage to stand up for Him.
