Doubts Did Not Stop Her
Don't Let Doubts Stop Your Belief
The purpose of our study of people in the Book of Acts is to examine the lessons we can learn from those named. The person we will meet today is only mentioned once in the Bible, but she helps us see that we should not doubt our beliefs or the power of prayer.
Acts 12 tells us how people gathered to pray for Peter because Herod had arrested him (Acts 12:3-5). James, the brother of Jesus, had just been killed for his belief, and Peter was soon to face the same fate. But God answered the prayers of those gathered in the house. Peter was released from prison and headed straight for the house where others gathered because he knew it was safe. Here is where we meet a servant girl named Rhoda.
Peter knocked on the door, and Rhoda, the servant, went to answer. She heard Peter's voice and was filled with joy because God had answered their prayers (Acts 12:14). She was so excited that she forgot to open the door to let Peter inside. However, many did not believe Rhoda (Acts 12:15). Even though the people praying did not believe Rhoda when she said that Peter was at the door, Rhoda never doubted God.
Even though we do not know much about Rhoda, she teaches us that we should never stop doubting the power of prayer and never stop believing what we know is true. You may feel that so much information is thrown at you that you do not know what is true and what is not true. Rhoda teaches us to remain joyful in what we know is true. Today, you can remain joyful knowing that God loves you and sent His Son, Jesus, to die for your sins and have an eternal relationship with you.
