Psalm 37: 5 = 1

One social media trend I did not understand last year was "Girl Math." For those who do not know what that means, a piece from an article I read may help you understand. The article listed nine examples of how to understand this new trend. For example, number 6 said, "If it is on sale, you are making a profit. If there is an item on sale for $50 from $90, technically $40 was made."

That may not make sense, but let me explain how five actions from Psalm 37:3-4 equals one result. Psalm 37: 3-4 says, "Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

What are the five actions?

  1. Trust in the Lord

  2. Do Good

  3. Dwell in the Land

  4. Enjoy Safe Pasture

  5. Take Delight in the Lord

What is the one result?
"He will give you the desires of your heart."

The year is still young, and there is hope for you to start the new year right. David writes these words to remind you to commit everything to God. He knew what it was like to go through hard times. Maybe you, too, are facing a difficult beginning in 2024. Take note of what David did. He did not complain. Instead, he committed. He did not take displeasure in life but delight in God. He sought to know God better each day he woke up. Perhaps today, as you start a new week, you can take delight in God by seeking to know Him better.

What is holding you back from committing everything to God? Are you fearful? Do you not trust God? Do you not want to give up control? There is more to gain from giving control of your life to God than keeping that control to yourself.

As we are eight days into a new year, let's act on these five steps from David. Let your heart desire to know God more in 2024. Let the desires of your heart be to know God more today. Today can be the day you relinquish control over to God. Find freedom today, and let God give you the desires of your heart.
